Quaking Aspen Tree

by Alyssa

Quaking aspen are the smaller version of the aspen species and probably the best known! The simple, round, paper-thin leaves on flatter stems make it flutter in the lightest breeze. That is how it got it's name. Young trees have pale green/white bark which gets darker and rougher with age. Aspens which grow 20 to 40 feet look their best in rolling meadow across the Rocky Mountains. During the fall, aspens sport elaborate and fabulous shades from red to gold.
